Date night & Red Butte Gardens Concert

As soon as I saw that Colbie Caillat was coming to Red Butte again I asked my dad if I could buy his tickets off of him for it. He buys two season tickets to the Red Butte Concerts.
It sold out shortly after going on sale to the general public.
Colbie Caillat is one of my very favorite artists.
I saw her when she came two years ago to Red Butte with Sheryl Crow, and also like 5 years ago down at Tuacahn in St George.
Since all the seats are general admission at Red Butte, people start lining up hours before the gates open. When my dad and his friends go they get in line in the early afternoon and hang out with snacks and good drinks. For sold out shows you definitely want to get in line early in order to have a good seat.
I told Mic I’d come downtown and have lunch with him and he could drop me off at Red Butte afterwards. Then I would hangout in line with a good book and diet coke until he got off work and could join me in line.
Work was slow for him so he actually ended up being able to get off at lunchtime, and was nice enough to sit in line with me starting at 2pm. The gates open at 6:30, and you can’t join anyone in line after 5.
At first the weather was overcast and cold & I was worried I would freeze in my tank top and shorts. But soon it got sweltering hot and we wished it had stayed overcast. I brought along a portable dvd player, my book, our chairs, two large blankets, a cooler, an umbrella, and a book. I felt like we were moving in.
I’d packed us a bunch of snacks, potato salad and chicken salad sandwiches for during the concert. Red Butte allows you to bring in your own food and beverages so that is super nice.
Once they opened the gates, the weather turned ugly and it started pouring rain. The stage crew covered all the equipment in tarps and told us we’d have to wait out the storm. All we had was my little umbrella to squeeze under, but that was better than nothing. The storm lasted forever, and some people left, and I was really hoping we wouldn’t end up leaving too. But we stuck it out.
Touring with Colbie was Gavin DeGraw. I’m not very familiar with his music but he was so good, and had a lot of energy on stage.
The concert was so fun, minus the rain.
Mic is such a good sport for letting me drag him to the concert, and sitting in line forever beforehand, and sticking it out through the rain. Never a dull moment for the two of us.
Hanging out in line forever
our seats were right behind the VIP/Sponsor section. Closest I've ever sat at a Red Butte Concert. Worth sitting in line for.

Mic getting our snacks ready. Summer sausage, cheese & crackers.

everyone with their umbrellas
