Halloween costumes/party.

This year I decided I wanted to dress up for Halloween. It had been awhile since I’d dressed up, seems like the last few years I ended up working on Halloween, and unless you’re a kid, or have children, Halloween doesn't seem as big of a deal anymore. Mic didn't celebrate Halloween growing up- which I think is crazy. I loved Halloween growing up and my mom always made our costumes- she was quite the crazy seamstress back then.

In all the 9 years Mic and I have known each other we have never once dressed up together. Since he didn’t dress up as a kid he definitely wasn’t big into it. But I convinced him we were going to be characters from the Wizard of Oz. I wanted to be Dorothy and wear cute red sparkly shoes. I told him he could either be lion, tin man, or scarecrow. He said he didn’t want a costume that made him itch or sweat to death. I decided tin man seemed like the least hot/itchy of the three.

Michelle and I went to the D.I (Deseret industries aka thrift shop) to scope out Halloween costume stuff. Her costume is still a secret so I can’t say what she’s being. But I found a long skirt that looked like the same material as Dorothy’s dress. I decided it would be cheaper to just turn it into a dress rather than buy material at a fabric store. So for $4 I bought the skirt. Then we found the perfect red sparkly shoes from Target in the kid’s section (since I have way tiny feet). Kid’s shoes are cheaper anyway which is the only benefit to having small feet pretty much. One pair of size 3.5 kids shoes for $12. I was stoked to pretty much have my whole costume for under $20. I’m not much of a seamstress but I managed to make it into a cute dress one night at my mom’s house on her ancient sewing machine – she got it as a graduation gift after high school. Michelle came over and worked on her costume as well and we had a sewing party. I may start sewing projects now- if I can just figure out how to work the sewing machine in my basement.

Mic’s costume was harder to make. We bought silver duct tape and spray paint. We found a red plastic funnel for under a dollar and then spray painted it silver. It turned out so well! It seriously made it look like it was made out of tin. Mic did the majority of his costume himself. He covered a t-shirt and shorts in duct tape, and then spray painted pieces of cardboard & poster board that he’d cut out to make limbs and boots with.

We got invited to a friend’s Halloween party that I’ve been friends with since elementary school! We ate and played games. One of which was breaking a piñata. Jared busted it open on the first swing! It was fun to get together, and I’m glad we’ve stayed friends all these years. It’s fun that we are all married now too- so we can hang out as couples.

Pictures from the party and of the many cupcakes I’ve made for two different parties. (They are becoming my latest obsession).
