Whoever invented cake pops (Bakerella?) is genius. They are so delicious &
bite size. I don’t know the cake pop to slice of cake ratio but I’m pretty sure
that allowing myself to eat every “imperfect/cracked” cake pop was a bad
idea.
Mic and I are going to our friend’s superbowl party and she
requested that I make some of my cake pops. So while Mic worked Friday evening,
I slaved away in the kitchen baking away. *Disclaimer: cake pops are delicious,
but a giant pain to make- time consuming wise. And be prepared to have your
kitchen covered in melted chocolate.* No matter how careful I think I’m being I
still always managed to get the dipped chocolate everywhere.
I bought the necessary supplies from Hobby Lobby and the
grocery store. Oh and I found a cake pops stand from JoAnn’s. Which by-the-way
funny story about my cake pops stand… so we all remember how great I am at reading
directions (sarcasm). First, reading/deciphering instructions is always so foreign to me, so
when I first glanced at them and they didn’t look like they made any sense, I
then realized they were actually in Spanish—foreign. By the time I located the English
version I was pretty much over it. So I said “screw it” and decided to just
figure out how to piece it together based off of the picture on the box it came
in. I think it went well. Moving on.
Step 1: bake a cake (box or from scratch, whichever you
prefer). Step 2: Allow cake to cool completely. (This is where I usually go
wrong because I’m not very patient. Put it in your freezer for a minimum of a
half hour) Step 3: crumble cake and add a little less than a whole tub of
frosting. (If you’re really smart you’ll add only parts of the frosting to the
crumbled cake and mixture- adding a little at a time until you get the right
gooey consistency. If you’re me however, you just add the whole tub of frosting
and then start mixing, only to realize afterwards that most recipes call for
less than the whole tub. But again, I don’t follow recipes accurately. Ever.)
Step 3: Form into balls. Step 4: Place cake pops in the
freezer so they’ll harden a little bit, and won’t fall apart when you go to dip
them in the melted chocolate. Ps I think some people put the sticks in at this
point, but I never seem to remember that detail beforehand. Step 5: remove from
freezer, and dip in your melted chocolate & decorate. Simple enough. Oh and if you have a “little
dipper” crock pot it’ll come in handy for melting the chocolate, and keeping it
hot while you dip all your cake pops. Which I’m pretty sure turns out to be
like 44+ cake pops for every cake mix box. And I’ve probably eaten 10 in the
last 24 hours. Good thing my Cocoa Beach trip is still 6 and a half weeks away.
