"Surprise!"

Surprise anniversary weekend getaway story: I kept going back and forth about what to do for our second wedding anniversary. I knew I couldn't compete with our first anniversary vacation (7 day cruise to the Southern Caribbean out of Puerto Rico!) but I wanted to go somewhere. At one point I told Mic that we would probably just do a fancy steak dinner & couples massage in order to somewhat save money. He was fine with this, but I continued to find myself looking up hotel deals.
Then one day at work one of my coworkers (Misty) saw me browsing for accommodations and we got talking about her recent trip to Deer Valley & the amazing hotel she stayed in. She had a "buy one night, get one night free" voucher from her last stay that she offered to me. I was so excited! We'd actually be able to get away, and stay in a fancy hotel for 2 nights rather then just an okay hotel for one night.

Fast forward a few days- we go to the State Fair with some friends, where afterwards I planned on secretly picking up the voucher from Misty's. I had mapquested directions to her house, and told Mic that we just needed to stop there after the fair. At first he just said OK and didn't ask any questions, but once we were on our way he started saying "So why are we going?" "What are we doing?" To which I just kept saying "I just have to pick something up.." That doesn't sound suspicious at all.. not to mention I'm not a very good liar. So we get to Misty's & she has the coupon hidden in a book she lets me "borrow". Mic doesn't understand why we drove all the way to North Salt Lake/Bountiful for a book that I could get at the library, or from her the next time we work, or why I even need another book in the first place when my coffee table has a stack of books waiting to be read.. We get home & I have to figure out how to call & make reservations without him hearing, so I lie & say I'm going to return some library books, to which he offers to return them on his way to class. Side note: this whole lying thing is a lot of work it turns out- you lie about one thing, and then another, and soon it's an avalance of "lies". But I knew having our weekend away a surprise would be worth it. So I drive to the library (return a book that wasn't due for a week) and call the hotel while in my car in the parking lot. I make the reservations & now I just have to manage to not spill the beans before Thursday. Anyone who knows me knows that I am the worst secret keeper EVER.

Mic goes to class & I decide that I am going to pack our bags. Packing for myself is a piece of cake, for someone else- not so much. In fact, Mic didn't have a lot of clean clothes for me to chose from so I end up doing two loads of his laundry- which I have REFUSED to do his laundry this whole time we've been married. I haul the suitcase out to my car & put it in the trunk. Now I just have to wait 4 days until we can go.

Thursday comes- we go to Kneaders for breakfast (my absolute favorite, Mic doesn't love it but takes me anyway). Then we head to Park City- his idea actually. He wants to exchange 5 broken skullcandy ear buds we'd been meaning to exchange for new ones- Yea for lifetime warranties.

I wasn't sure how exactly I would break the news of the surprise, maybe have him open the trunk to find our suitcases? In the end he guesses we're staying the night when I tell him we're staying in Park City for dinner.. although he didn't think that I had already packed, he thought we'd have to go back to SLC for our stuff. And when I tell him we're staying two nights not just one he is way surprised. I refuse to tell him what hotel we're staying at & instead give him the directions I printed from mapquest so he won't know until we drive up.

The hotel is amazing (The Chateaux at Silver Lake), we have a King Suite with a fireplace & mountainside view.

So Happy 2nd Anniversary Love. here's to many more adventures.
PS A big thanks to Laura & Alex for watching Sophie so we could get away for the weekend.
