Coincidence? I think not. Small fricken world.

I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to type this funny story into words so that it makes sense. And it probably won’t, and it won’t be nearly as awesome as it was firsthand but whatever I’m typing it up and laughing about it anyway.

Tifanie & I have been friends since high school,  her boyfriend at the time was best friends with my boyfriend at the time (who happens to be my husband now- funny how that worked out). So we became friends by convenience but really after they broke up, we still remained friends. And have been best friends since. We always say that the funniest most random things happen to us when we’re together, or we just have funny ways of telling ordinary stories.

Today we met for lunch & so that I could give her her birthday present.
I almost canceled because I came down with this horrible head cold Mic gave me over the weekend, but after staying inside basically all weekend I began to get cabin fever & had to get out of the house. And out into the nasty Utah smog which I’m sure really helps my congested nasty sinuses.

So we meet at Zupas, get our food, and sit down at the only table open because that place is always packed. But then we decide our table next to the door is way too cold so we snatch up the next open table when it becomes available.

We eat & catch up on life & I ask her about her new car that she got right before Christmas. Her “dream car.” She tells me about the great deal she got at the dealership and how that car ended up there in the first place- which she knows because her friend works at the dealership & found her dream car for her. She’s telling me about how it had only one owner and the guy commuted from Park City and was driving down Parley’s Canyon when he came upon a rock slide, and the front passenger tire hits a rock & the airbag goes off. And even though there isn't really structural damage, if the airbag deploys it lowers the value of the car or something like that. About this time in the story a guy sitting a foot away from us at the table to the side of me turns around and says “I’m sorry to interrupt you, but I couldn't help overhearing your story… and I think you bought my car...” He goes on to say “that exact same thing happened to me, with the rock slide on Parley's and I commute from Park City, and it can’t just be coincidence, so I think you bought my car.” At this point we’re dying and Tif asks him what his car was and sure enough he says her exact car. What are the odds that of all the restaurants in the SLC area, we both happen to go to Zupas in West Valley & sit next to the guy who was the previous owner of her new car.. the guy who commutes from Park City. And sometime during her story to me she had said “I think he was probably some business guy because he took really good care of his car & the leather seats are in great condition..” and she’s going off on what she thinks the previous owner must have been like and sure enough Mr. Businessman was sitting next to us, and he told us how great he took care of his car. Haha.

The only thing that would have made this story better was if said Businessman was single (which he wasn't,  I checked for a ring- for her) and they could’ve dated. That would make the best “how’d you two meet?” story. I’m glad he interrupted us, and didn’t just sit there listening to us & thinking to himself “weird, that sounds like my car" and went about his day.

Afterwards Tifanie says to me "I can't wait to tell everyone I know this story.. how do I re-tell this story in a text?" and I said "I can't wait to blog about it."

So Happy (Golden) Birthday Tif, I’m so glad we’ve been best friends the last 10 years. And have way too many funny stories & the best memories.
